The New Nanotherm Coating : PERFORMANCE EXPLOSION FOR INVOLUTE GEAR CUTTERS

Tools are exposed to extreme thermal and mechanical stresses in many fields of application. Involute gear cutting provides a good example: the macro and micro geometries of the cutting edge are critical for a tool’s performance in dry machining and when the cutting process is sharply interrupted.

After LMT’s Nanosphere coating has proved itself on solid tools in the last year, LMT Fette is now introducing Nanotherm, a specialized coating for indexable insert tools.

It is a thick layer. The tension within the coating is dissipated by the preliminary and finishing treatment used specially for this coating. This – and a hardness of 3500 HV – is what guarantees its high performance. Spectacular performance hikes are already being reported in both wet and dry machining: increases in tool life of between 32 and 100%. These tools will be used in the manufacture of components for wind turbines and in other sectors of heavy industry.
