CIMT in Beijing: LMT focuses on tool innovation

If you want to gain an impresson of the dynamic development of the Chinese economy over recent years, you only need to take a closer look at fairs and trade shows. The China International Machine Tool Show (CIMT) is a striking example. In 1989 the biennial mechanical engineering and machine tool fair registered only 446 exhibitors. This year, on the other hand, over 1,100 participating companies are expected. LMT will be presenting a large number of tool innovations in Beijing that will enable users to achieve a sustainable increase of their productivity in cutting applications.

CIMT is being held for the 12th time in Beijing between 11 and 16 April. In recent years the fair has become one of the world’s most important events for the international mechanical engineering and machine tool  industry. In the process CIMT has benefited from the enduring boom in the Chinese economy. The experts are again expecting enormous growth rates for the coming year. In the automobile industry, for example, Germany Trade and Invest (GTI), the German government foreign trade agency, is forecasting an increase of almost 50% in the number of cars driven. The GTI also envisages strong increases in demand in the aircraft construction, general engineering and wind turbine sectors over the next few years.

Innovation for higher productivity

The LMT Group and its alliance partners are presenting new tools for these and many other application areas. “During the last year we have developed innovative tools that enable users to further improve their productivity,” explains Xia Xu, head of the Asia region at LMT Tool Systems. One example here is a new generation of modular taps for cast materials that bears the name XChange. LMT promises its customers that they will achieve at least 30% higher productivity in serial production with XChange than using conventional high-speed steel (HSS) and solid carbide tools.

New Composites Excellence initiative

Additionally, the Group will be presenting its new Composites Excellence sales campaign in China. This initiative pools the know-how of the LMT competence centres for machining composite materials and plastics, LMT Belin and LMT Onsrud. “At CIMT we will be demonstrating a collection of highlights from the wide range of tools for composites offered by LMT Belin and LMT Onsrud, which have decades of expertise in this field,” says Xu.
